Broadway Musical DVDs

Once you've seen a Broadway Musical, you might want to take it home with you! Many Broadway Musicals can be found on DVD to purchase and take home to enjoy again and again. Some DVDs of Broadway Musicals are recorded versions of the actual stage performance, while others were made into major motion pictures such as Chicago , The Sound of Music , The Phantom of the Opera , Hello, Dolly! and Fiddler on the Roof .

While they may not be exactly like you saw it on stage, many times these Broadway Musicals have the advantage of being filmed on location and can give you an entirely different feel to the show. It also gives those that have never had the chance to go to New York and see a live Broadway Musical, the opportunity to experience this wonderful genre!

Some of these Broadway Musicals may even have new songs that are added for the DVD or film version, such as the beautiful song Captain Von Trapp and Maria sing to each other in The Sound of Music called: "Something Good". Most stage productions today choose to insert this song for the one originally written for the show called: "An Ordinary Couple". Others get cut or taken out in the Broadway Musicals DVD or film, such as Uncle Max and Elsa's "How Can Love Survive?". This song is usually cut from the stage versions as well as it seems odd, dated and somewhat out of character for Elsa, the Baroness.

In the Broadway Musical Film and DVD version of "Chicago ", the song "Nowadays" was eliminated. As a film usually adds more elements than can be done on stage, this takes up time and therefore some musical numbers can get cut in order to fit a time frame for the film. While some songs or scenes may get cut, there are some Broadway Musicals DVDs that contain a "deleted scene" section where you can view any scenes of musical numbers that they actually filmed, but were cut later when they edited the film. For example, on the Broadway Musical DVD, "The Producers", the song "The King of Old Broadway" was cut from the film, but can be found in the "deleted scenes" track.

In the first film version of the Broadway Musical Annie , which you can find on DVD, an extra song was written for Daddy Warbucks and Miss Hannigan, the mean drunk woman who runs the orphanage and was brilliantly played by Carol Burnett.

In it they sing a song to called: "Sign" as Warbucks tries to avoid Hannigan's advances and attempts to get her to sign the adoption papers for Annie. It's unfortunate this song and scene are not a part of the stage production as it is a fun little romp around her office between the two.

In the Broadway Musicals Film and DVD version of "Chicago", the song "Class" was eliminated which is sung by Big Mama Morton.

For example, on the Broadway Musical DVD, "The Producers ", the song "The King of Old Broadway" was cut from the film, but can be found in the "deleted scenes" track.
