A Former "New Yawker's" Advice



So, you need tickets to broadway shows!!! There's nothing like the feeling of being there live at a Broadway Show and finding tickets at a good price. And making sure it's with a reliable source is important! There are many ticket scalpers out there...on the street as well as scam-a-lamas on the internet! They boast tickets to broadway shows, discount or half price tickets as well as claiming they are the best place for last minute broadway tickets. Beware. These scams can be very sophisticated and you always run the risk of getting to the theatre and finding ouft they are fakes!  My experience has been, "stick with the pros", when it comes to getting tickets for broadway shows .

For the best guarantee of getting legitimate tickets to broadway shows, I recommend using:

Ticketmaster.com or Telecharge.com.

• They cover tickets for all the broadway shows and will advertise great discounts for individual shows.
• They usually have the latest for any last minute broadway tickets if you are being spontaneous and
• they are tried and true. No need to worry about where your tickets are coming from.

Having lived in New York City, I am used to street scams that many low life's run there when it comes to getting tickets to Broadway shows. I remember one time when my brother was visiting from out of town, and we were going to purchase some tickets to shows and were met by a guy on the street outside of a hotel who said he could get us half price tickets. My brother said "Ok, what show?" The guy said "what show do you wannna see?" We named a show, and he said he had the tickets for that broadway show. My brother said, "let's see". The guy then proceeded to tell us that they were right inside the door with his friend who was the concierge at that hotel. He said "just give me the money, (he named a price), and I'll take it in and bring them back out to you."

Luckily, my brother was already pretty street savvy. He said, "go get the tickets and bring them out here, then I'll give you the money." The guy tried to argue that he had to go in with the money first. My brother then confronted himv  with "No. You'll take my money in then go out the other door." The guy quickly walked away. 

Unfortunately, I know too many trusting people who would have handed over the money!  And now, with the internet, these scam artists that sell tickets to broadway shows, don't even have to meet you. People willingly and innocently, turn over their credit card information online, thinking they are dealing with a legitimate company just because they have a domain. 
 
Now, don't get me wrong, there are plenty of legitimate online vendors for tickets to broadway shows, and even those who can deal in getting you last minute broadway tickets, besides the two I've mentioned.  My advice is, if you are not familiar with these other ations from other people before using others to get your tickets to broadway shows! companies, stick with Ticketmaster.com or Telecharge.com first, then get recommendations from people regarding other brokers or online ticket brokers they have used.
Many times you can do Google Searches that can help you find out if certain ticket brokers have any complaints or have been reported as scams for getting tickets to broadway shows.
